Dr. K. Mahendar received his Ph.D in organic chemistry from Osmania University in 2008. He did his doctoral work (2002-2008) in Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT), Hyd., under the guidance of Dr. B. M. Choudary.
During his doctoral research, he worked on the application of bifunctional nanocrystalline magnesium oxide in the development of novel synthetic methodologies and their mechanistic studies for the synthesis of industrially important organic intermediates and development of multi-component reactions, multi-step synthesis for biologically active small molecules. He also involved in industrial process development projects (Ciprofloxacin base, methyl mercaptan effluent gas from Ranitidine drug preparation). With his contribution, he authored/co-authored in 10 peer reviewed scientific publications and credited co-inventor ship with one patent.
After completion of his Ph.D, he has been working in pharma industry for the last eight years on multi-step synthesis in medicinal chemistry. He worked as a research associate in Laxai Avanti life Sciences Pvt. Ltd. Hyderabad for two years (2008-2010). He was involved in design and synthesis of pyridine and pyrimidine derivatives and few process development projects with 2 to 5 step synthesis. He has been working in Sapala Organics Pvt. Ltd. since 2010, has worked as senior scientific officer (2010-2014) and has been working as research scientist from 2014. He has been actively involving in design and synthesis of various heterocyclic compounds- substituted pyrimidine derivatives, oxazoles, thiazole, oxadiazole, deuterated compounds, aliphatic cyclic compounds and spiro compounds involving with sophisticated chemistry. He is leading a team of 3-4 resources, managing their projects and status reports. He has visited Japan in April 2016 to meet the client and discussed about projects for satisfactorily upgradation of mutual collaboration. He has attended the CPhI, Japan (Tokyo) in 2016 and CPhI, India (Hyderabad) in 2015.
