Bipyridines
Bipyridine is an organic heterocyclic compound containing two pyridine rings connected at one carbon on each ring. Among many regiomeric bipyridines, 2,2’-bipyridines have special characteristic of forming stable complexes with transition metals. Many 2,2’-bipyridine derivatives have been used as bidentate ligands of transition metal complxes for dye sensitized solar cell. Bipyridines have also been utilized for catalytic process and in asymmetric catalysis. Considering the multiple applications of bipyridines, we have developed multigram scale synthesis of bipyridines. Sapala also continues its efforts to make new derivatives of bipyridines including the synthesis of unsymmetrical derivatives of bipyridines and bipyridines with extended conjugation at the 4,4’-position.
The following are the representative examples of bipyridines.
Other bipyridines and their metal complexes can be made in pure forms upon request.
